For a hot young actor (tipped to be in the running to be the new Doctor Who) Dominic Cooper was a lark to shoot.  I probably passed off as a little too serious and found myself trying to call him to order and attempt to control his cheeky chappy persona as we had literally minutes to shoot him for a major Standard interview to promote his forthcoming film ‘Summer in February.’  Simple lighting and personality were the key goals for me.  The process of performing on camera is thankfully instinctive to him.

Caught a few minutes with Anne-Marie Duff and her Director Simon Goodwin, during a break from rehearsals of the National Theatre production of Strange Interlude.  Although we had plenty of time to set up, the shoot was in a very small and very stark rehearsal room at the Jerwood Space. Decided to make the most of one of the only props in the room, these uniformly stacked black chairs.
The Standard cropped in slightly but it’s always very satisfying to see a nice sized dps.

Kyle Falconer is the lead singer with indie band The View.

He rocked up at his management office in Central London for an interview and some pictures with The Sunday Mail. He has, shall we say a reputation so we arrived early in order to make sure we had our shots set up and were ready to go. The location not ideal but I thought the piano would make an interesting shot. My assistant and I had to literally move it from one side of the room to the other (the wall it was on also had a huge flatscreen tv). I saw the puppets, from a previous video , each one representing a member of the band and decided it would give a quirky twist the shot.

I’m pleased to say Kyle himself was charm personified and although it was a brief shoot I got some interesting options for a cover and inside feature.

I’ve worked with Sharleen before, as an assistant on a shoot for her last solo album ‘The Movie Songbook.’  She remembered me and know’s I’m a super fan. She’s pretty good fun to shoot  and whilst being all about getting it done she thankfully has a timeless beauty and a really strong image which makes her easy to shoot in spite of her grumbling for you to hurry up!

We met up at the Greenberry Cafe in Notting Hill and used the back area which the staff kindly kept clear for us.  The natural light was actually really beautiful but I decided to use some flash through a softbox to give the images a little more gloss.  Sharleen is pretty flawless so I didn’t need to retouch the images too much apart from increasing the clarity in Camera Raw which creates a little more contrast and ‘pop’.

What do you do with two Scottish comedians when you have limited time and are shooting in a fairly ordinary family home?  Stick ‘em in a cupboard of course.

Scottish actor Mingus Johnston and I took a walk down my favourite part of the Southbank, opposite the Houses of Parliament on beautiful but freezing Spring day.  Ming can currently be seen in the movie Jack & the Giant Slayer alongside fellow Scot Ewan McGreggor.
The story here, as well as promoting MIng’s work is that his father was MP and Scottish Liberal Leader Lord Russell-Johnston. The idea was simply to   illustrate the contrast between Ming’s life now as a London based actor and his father’s with that he would enter politics so The Palace of Westminster was a perfect backdrop.
